Barbeque Sauce Makes a Great Gift

Posted by Laura Thomson on April 21, 2007 - 1:42 PM in

We ate lunch today at Sconyers, that barbeque icon of Augusta.  As we waddled to the door, I spied the basket of barbeque sauces.  Inspiration struck, and we bought two bottles to send to my husband's dad in Oregon.  Although the debate over what is barbeque continues to endure (my West coast husband  sees it only as slabs of meat, versus my Southern upbringing that includes pulled pork or beef on sandwich buns), both of us agreed that the sauce was a unique and tasty gift.

As we have moved around the country, I have always tried to find gifts that represent the area in which we live.  I've bought peach jam from the farmers market in downtown, as well as pecans (although I had to get those at the grocery store).  I wasn't able to make it to the Masters this year, but I hope to buy my golf-loving brother-in-law a souvenir next year.  My point is this - be open to unusual places to find gifts, especially for out-of-town friends and relatives.  If there are other places and ways to buy products that represent Augusta, let me know.

I'm off to nap.  If you've eaten at Sconyers, you'll understand.
