An Afternoon at the Civic Center
The Home and Garden Show was about as I expected: rows of salespeople trying to sell me a service or product, with free food samples and raffles thrown in to attract my attention. The guy selling grills that go on top of a stove seemed to be doing a brisk business, but other than that most salespeople were happy to get your name and phone number. I did get my ring cleaned and drooled over some high-end balsamic vinegars.
There was a fairly diverse selection of booths. Along with the expected windows, hot tubs, and cookware, I saw handyman services, playground equipment, antiques, and PODS.
Although there were granite counters and flooring booths, I didn't find a tile company. We've decided to add a tile backsplash, and I wanted ideas. Also, I was disappointed in the gardening selection. Two people were selling actual plants, and there were some fake brick curbs and decorated garden stakes; but I think there could have been more booths with actual items or with ideas for garden design.
I think the show would have been more helpful if we'd had major changes to make to our house, but it was an okay way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
