Is Augusta in Fashion?

Posted by Laura Thomson on March 07, 2007 - 10:13 PM in

I hear from some that people in Augusta are behind in style, so I checked out some local stores to see if what's hot for spring is showing up here. For the most part, I saw the same styles, adapted from the runway for the rest of us mortals. The black and white contrast (my favorite) and geometric prints popped from dresses (a good mix of wrap-around, empire waists, and shifts or baby doll looks). I love that dresses are popular, but I don't think the short shift dresses will look that great on all of us.
Although I didn't see much lace and frills, Ann Taylor surprisingly was one exception. Eyelet lace adorned skirts and dresses, but it was still done in Ann Taylor's typical conservative style. The skinny jean is on the racks in both Macy's and JC Penney's, but fortunately for my 35-year old body, boot cut and straight leg jeans still exist. Macy's calls the billowing top a "Kimono" style, which I love with the still-popular bermuda shorts or pencil skirts. Finally, bold colors showed up almost everywhere (Gap had more neutrals). Although I was reminded a little of the 80's bright colors, pink and green combos were thankfully absent. Augusta women can shop in style.
