Grocery Store Sales

Posted by Laura Thomson on March 01, 2007 - 3:17 PM in

When I sat down to do this blog, I discovered one problem with trying to compare prices at different grocery stores through their weekly ads: stores have different brands and different ways of presenting a sale (buy one get one free, 2 for $4.00, etc.). So this is a sample of what I found in the ads. Bi-Lo had the best price on Coke products at 2 for $6, along with 20 for $10 on Yoplait yogurts. Kroger has some Bush's beans on sale for 59 cents each, as well as Perdue chicken breasts for only $1.99 a pound. Wal-Mart is selling Ragu spaghetti sauce for 2 for $3 and some General Mills cereals for only $1.89. Food Lion has fresh deli ham on sale for $2.99 and Kraft salad dressings for 10 for $10. Lastly, Publix has strawberries on sale for 2 for $4.00, as well as Stouffer's entrees for 5 for $10.00. Of course, many of the deals require you to have a membership card, but that only takes a few minutes. Although I look at ads from multiple stores, I must admit that often I only shop at one or two stores for convenience. Does anyone drive around town and go to multiple stores for the cheapest items anymore?

I don't know if $59 is really the best deal on Bush's beans...

Sorry - I was typing with my son on my lap. That's supposed to read 59 cents! Laura

I had a feeling that was the real price, thanks for the correction.

Occasionaly, I will shop around for the best meat deals but with gas on the rise to almost $3.00 a gallon some times it just isn't worth it. Not to mention spending your whole weekend going from grocery store to grocery store for the best and least expensive deals. Its like the milk prices. Do we drive the extra miles to save a few pennies or just pay the extra cents for sanity sake. Its a Catch 22...your damned if you do and damned if you don't.
