Kids Don't Have To Cost Much

Posted by Laura Thomson on February 27, 2007 - 9:34 PM in

If your child is like my infant son, he's gone through more clothes in four months than the average celebrity. While I love shopping for him, I hate spending a lot on clothes he won't wear for long. So I frequent consignment stores and sales for children's clothes and toys. My favorite consignment store is Kid to Kid in Evans. On a recent visit I bought two outfits and books for about $12. I have also seen ads for three upcoming consignment sales: March 2nd and 3rd at National Hills Shopping Center, March 14th through 18th at the Augusta Jewish Community Center and run by Callie's Closets, and March 23rd at Trinity on the Hill Methodist Church. I haven't been to any of these sales; so if you have, let me know what you thought.

I just opened up a shop on Columbia Rd for infant clothing up to 4T, tarts and warmers, and cloth diapers. Many items are hand-made (most of the diapers), some are new clothing items, some are shirts, rompers, and onesies that are screen-printed on site. I even have a few goodies of excellent used clothing for a song! I'd love for you to stop by for a visit and a chat! You'd be amazed at how modern cloth diapering has become, my son has been in cloth since birth and he is 2 now. I also carry bath and body products by Burt's Bees and some other small companies that hand-mix and pour their own natural, organic products. You can get an idea of what is offered on my website, www.augustababiesincloth.com or better yet, stop on by and I'll chat diapers, kids, or even the weather with ya! It's August Babies in Cloth at 4116 Columbia Rd, right across the street from the Kroger that they are remodeling. I look forward to seeing you, and bring your son along, too! Laurie Bennett

Thanks for letting me know.  I haven't seen your store, but I'm on Columbia Rd. a lot and will stop by.

Well why haven't you told any of us your good news? That is sooo exciting that you have a brick and mortar store. Much better than a garage to hold everything. I'm actually going to be in your area soon. I suppose if you have not had a chance to get my fabric/snaps ready to ship by that time, I could just pick it up? And maybe we could chat? Then again, I wouldn't want to hold you up from getting all those orders we're patiently waiting on shipped. I know getting that all done is very important to you. See you soon!!

So, what happened to:

"Just so that this does not get totally out of control while I'm trying my best to make things right...YES, I rented a space that is much larger than my garage to house my fabric, and get it out of the house. It is a storage warehouse, that has much more room for me to move, cut, package, see, and breathe. It is not being used as a means to take anyone's stuff and sell it off! It is being used as a solution tot he space problem and mess problem that I am having here with getting all of the items packaged and cut. So, that is what the 'store' consists of...a glorified garage. I can and will take picstures of it if anyone needs me to in order to see what this mystical 'brick and mortar' castle actually is. If I didn't get this stuff out from every room in my house, I never would have been able to get through it...so this is simply a way to improve things, NOT a way to rip more people off."

Your 'mystical' brick and mortar store seems to have miraculously upgraded from its humble beginnings as a glorified garage. Boy, some gals have all the luck...

Wow, I'd be afraid to have a mob of angry moms rushing your Columbia Rd. storefront if I were you. You can only lie so much before it all catches up with you.

I love cloth diapering! It is an awesome way to protect the environment and save money as well as cater to those with sensitive skin. I have cloth diapered for almost 5 years! That said, I HIGHLY discourage you from dealing with Laurie on any level. There is more background to this woman than you ever wish. She has run a co-op deceitfully for over a year now and has no intention of shipping out the more than 290 packages that are owed. She refuses to refund saying that she does not have the money, yet she has been able to spend the time and money to open her own private store. It is sick, wrong and un just. A year of stealing people's items (oh wait, keeping them at your house for a sense of control) without shipping anything - refusing to refund purchases though every attempt at communication has been made, making excuses why you should be give a third, forth, eight chance though it's been more than 12 months... may the consequences for your actions finally visit you Laurie. Please, check the Better Business Bureau, http://www.ic3.gov and Bad Apple before dealing with this woman, she is deceitful and manipulative and has no intention of making her past bad choices and actions right though more than 280 women wait for their items... with no recourse against this woman who is, in essence, acting as a theif.

Refunds have been ongoing, and are nearly all processed. No one was scammed...it was simply a matter of ladies not wanting to wait the amount of time it took to go through the slew of orders that came in a short amount of time. I will post again when all of the refunds are finished to all the ladies who have ordered. Thanks for your concern, but please post more accurate statistics in the future. By the way, can you also add in the fact that you received your refund LONG before you posted this malicious post, Birthfree? Laurie Bennett
