Shopping At A Downtown Delight

Posted by Laura Thomson on February 26, 2007 - 3:26 PM in

This weekend I discovered a new candle store in downtown Augusta. Candle Works, at 8th and Broad, has been in business since December, but the store is still celebrating its grand opening. I liked the variety of scents, from baby powder to one labelled Christmas Carol. In addition, the prices made my wallet happy, with votives at $1.25 to large candles in jars at $12.99. The saleswoman also told me that all their candles are made on site. While my shopping buddies cut my sniffing short, I'll go back, particularly if I need a gift.

Thanks Laura for the tip. Will be making rounds down there once my "more expensive" candles finish burning. They might also give me some tips on how to clean the wax off the pretty jars so I can actually use them.

What a great addition to the downtown area. There are also many more "new" stores in the downtown district having "Grand Openings" that you need to check out. I recommend strolling Broad Street this First Friday to check them all out. There is the new Vintage Shop, a New Salon/Spa and a new gift store. All within walking distance of each other. I've even heard of one store giving away a new leather loveseat this First Friday.
BTW - put your glass jar candle in the freezer to harden the wax. It will chip right out. To finish cleaning off any residue- use GooGone. Works like a charm.

Michelle-
Put your pretty jars in the freezer. When the wax is frozen take the jar out and bump it on the counter. The frozen wax will instantly release from the glass leaving a wax free container that you can reuse.
