New Year's Eve in Bucharest
We took a nap today, in preparation for staying up all night. That's what you do on New Year's Eve, no matter what country you're in, I think. And that is a definite in Bucharest, judging by all the lights and 2007s that have appeared around town.
Not to mention the noises in the street. So far it sounds like cannon fire.
Tonight we are going to the Butterfly Villa hostel, where we lived for six weeks when we first arrived in town. We still have friends there--Steve from the UK and Lucan from Canada. Not to mention the four girls who not only work there but obviously considered the Butterfly Villa their second home. One is going home to her town to spend the holiday with her family. Hopefully the others will be at the hostel.
And of course, you have to be outside at midnight, wherever you are. I don't know where I picked up that notion, but there it is, and there I will be, somewhere on Strada Zosima, just as most of you back home are making preparations for your evening. I will be out there, probably with a cup of something hot and caffeinated, staring at the night sky, wondering who may be staring back.
