Michael Jackson makes remarks at Brown funeral

Posted by Chronicle Newsroom on December 30, 2006 - 4:24 PM

Michael Jackson spoke at James Brown's "homegoing celebration" after being invited by the Rev. Al Sharpton. The following is an excerpted quote from his brief remarks:

"James Brown is my greatest inspiration. Ever since I was a small child, no more than like 6 years old, my mother would wake me no matter what time it was ... to watch the television to see the master work. And when I saw him move, I was mesmerized. ... Right then and there, I know that was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, because of James Brown."

"James Brown, I shall miss you, and I love you so much, and thank you for everything."

And to the screaming crowd, Mr. Jackson said, "I love you."

I really admire Mr. Jackson for taking the time out of his busy schedule to join the many that admired and loved Mr. Brown in celebrating his homegoing services. when I heard the heartbreaking news not only thinking of the family. I thought of Mr. Jackson as well because, I know that Mr. Jackson and Mr. Brown had a special bond in the music industry. Again, Thank You Mr. Jackson for your time and joining us in celebrating the homegoing of Our God Father Of Soul Mr. James Brown.

Many artists say they were influenced by James Brown but didn't the take time to attend his homegoing.

Michael Jackson talked the talk and walked the walk.

He stood up to be counted among the admirers and recalled watching "the master at work."
