Don't forget about the portsPosted by imdstuf on October 11, 2006 - 10:19 AM Remember the big deal about our ports? remember how we did not want an arab company to own or operate the ports, so to circumvent the big fight over it Dubai Ports World graciously agreed to end the controversy and sell them to a US company? Could it be that it takes a while to find a buyer? Could it be that a US company has not come forward to buy them? Could it be that there is a long drawn out process a company needs to go through? Could it be that the Politicians have nothing to report? Could it be that the Democrats are unable to find a way to blame the President for something else? Could it be that you have not done your homework before starting this blog? Submitted by weekapaug05 on October 11, 2006 - 2:35 PM.
Have you seen how much they have stepped up port security? Have you seen how many more inspections they do now? Do you know how much more they inspect on those inspections? g_dog is totally correct with his questions on finding a buyer. Do you realize how much money it cost to run and staff a port authority? Do you realize how much money middle eastern countries and companies would stand to lose if they did not adhear to our regulations and use our ports? They've stepped up their port security on the loading end because they don't want middle eastern terrorist screwing up their business. How about you go down to Charleston and talk to some folks down there at the port authority about how much more time and money they are pouring into security now as opposed to 6 years ago. it's my fault... boy, you just can't trust those Saudis Submitted by imdstuf on October 12, 2006 - 9:41 AM.
I did not question whether Dubai Ports World was running them properly. They may very well be doing a bang up job with security and have everyone's best interest at heart, but you guys have basically just talked out both sides of your mouth. Go read some of the stuff you all have written before. An innocent reporter can be held without just cause because the color of his skin, but let a major port be owned by Arabs and it is okay because George W. likes them. I bet if he said he had some ocean front property in Arizona you would believe him. Submitted by weekapaug05 on October 12, 2006 - 9:48 AM.
I've already bought ocean front property in Arizona ... there's no beach there you say. Well let me tell you something: San Andreas fault is going to rip California out into the Pacific one day and I'm going to have a kick ass beach house right there on the coast and you're not. Surf's up dude! And in the words of Maynard James Keenan "Learn to swim"! Submitted by FrozenOne on October 14, 2006 - 7:09 PM.
How will you respond to the bill that the President just signed into law giving the ports till next year to come up to speed on their security of container cargo. Dosen't sound like a President selling out his country to me. Submitted by mgroothand on October 12, 2006 - 11:58 AM.
Dubai Ports World or would-be buyers are unable to grasp the mind of the Longshoreman's Union. Likely one of the strongest and most corrupt unions in the country, they are making demands on the seller and the buyer that neither can live with. Even with Georgia and South Carolina being Right-to-Work states, one dares not to shun membership. That can be a major problem for any seller. Submitted by g_dog_blog on October 12, 2006 - 8:17 PM.
Well, you see, here is the basic problem. imdstuf has a way of reading into things that does not exist. How can anyone say, "you guys have basically just talked out both sides of your mouth," based on what has just been written? I'm not sure if this kind of logic is even worth discussing because it is so far out in la-la land. But, if may help since it seems to follow the pattern of logic that many liberals have. No one has said they want to have our ports run by Dubai. The problem is who will step up and buy them. Who do you think works at the ports? Who do you think does the security checks? Who do you think loads and unloads the ships? The answer to all three is Americans. Dubai does not own the ports the state governments own them. Dubai owns the Management Company that coordinates the movement of containers or cargo to the port, to the storage area, to the proper ship, to the new port, and the new customer. They are a coordination/communication company. The actual physical work is done through unions and contracting companies. They do not own the ports. The real kicker of course is that all of this is the Presidents fault. It couldn’t possibly be the fault of the company that sold to Dubai. imdstuf you need to get your head out whatever it is up. |
