Finally--------one linePosted by gimpel on October 04, 2006 - 6:18 AM Past which, certain behavior is unacceptable. That year, Dan Crane, a Republican representative from Illinois, admitted having sex with a 17-year old female page. Gerry Studds, a Democrat representative from Massachusetts, admitted having sex with a 17-year old male page. Remember the late night jokes? In Congress, they don’t use bookmarks, they just bend over the pages…†Crane and Studds were censured by the House of Representatives. So, the Republicans had a clearly marked line. Mark Foley crossed that line. Mark Foley deserves to be expelled from the House of Representatives. Submitted by mgroothand on October 04, 2006 - 8:57 AM.
The Democrats and their hairtrigger responses of OUTRAGE remind me of radical Muslims with Danish Cartoons and a pope Benedict's quote. Pounce on anything that moves and feign amnesia about their own dirty deeds. Submitted by mydtwc on October 06, 2006 - 1:35 PM.
mgroothand, you're wanting to name names and point fingers. That is hilarious. I am a busy little beaver today so BUZZFLASH>COM was kind enough to let me borrow the following. Republican Congressman Mark Foley abruptly resigned from Congress after "sexually explicit" emails surfaced showing him flirting with a 16-year old boy. Republican preacher Stephen White, who demanded a return to traditional values, was sentenced to jail after offering $20 to a 14-year-old boy for permission to perform oral sex on him. Republican talk show host Jon Matthews pleaded guilty to exposing his genitals to an 11 year old girl. Republican anti-gay activist Earl "Butch" Kimmerling was sentenced to 40 years in prison for molesting an 8-year old girl after he attempted to stop a gay couple from adopting her. Republican legislator Keith Westmoreland was arrested on seven felony counts of lewd and lascivious exhibition to girls under the age of 16 (i.e. exposing himself to children). Republican anti-abortion activist John Allen Burt was found guilty of molesting a 15-year old girl. Submitted by mgroothand on October 07, 2006 - 8:40 AM.
I might have believed your post about all these sick Republicans had it not been for your last paragraph: "Republican Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld authorized the rape of children in Iraqi prisons in order to humiliate their parents into providing information about the anti-American insurgency" To say this is over the top would be a gross understatement and renders the preceding claims as very questionable, to say the least. I'm sure that if I had the resources I could find as many Democrats guilty of similar crimes. Submitted by weekapaug05 on October 04, 2006 - 9:44 AM.
It seems that all these people in our govt., esp. conservatives, have all these moral coillitions, and bans on gay sex/marrage and they are having sex with little boys. Even worse are some of the incidents involving liberal politicians and sex scandles that mgroothand has so kindly listed above. I'm sick of all the double standards in politics. Man Boy relationships have been going on for a long time, documented since the Roman Empire, and isn't that what America is, the modern day Roman Empire? If not, well it should be, we have the Empire State Building after all. I think that these poiticians should join N.A.M.B.L.A. (that was made famous and brought to national attention by South Park) and fight for their right to man boy love relationships. Or they should rot in hell. You're right in most ways. What is going on in DC is the epitome of hypocracy and it's been that way for a very long time. Different coalitions under some type of "leadership" will try to take over on the scandal-du-jour. Juiciest of these deal with sex and are helped greatly by the MSM slathering for salacious headlines. This time, from what I read, there was no actual sex involved unless cybersex can be counted as a sex act. Well, come to think of it, Clinton redefined sex claiming that oral sex was not a real sex act, so who knows anymore? Submitted by imdstuf on October 04, 2006 - 1:19 PM.
Again, I will state, I think there are many corrupt politicians regardless of party. Bringing up something from 1983 has nothing to do with a current politician though. Two wrongs do not make a right. Were those other past politicians wrong? Yes, you bet your you know what. Why are people pointing this out though? Partisan politics? Foley is gone. The investigations will find out whether anyone else should have called for him to resign prior to now. Submitted by FrozenOne on October 04, 2006 - 3:17 PM.
It's not right by any means what Foley did and he should be punished for it if proven guilty in a court of law. However, it appears now a days that people are found guilty by the Democratic run news media before it reaches that point. Talk about a bunch of hypocritical people. Seems like the Democrats are always trying to get the public to condem people of the Republican party using the news media. It sure is a different story when the shoe is on the other foot. Oh but we all know that what Bill did was quite alright and nobody got hurt so it was quite all right. Any public official that use their power to break the law should be punished by a court of their peers and not by the news media. Like a brave Green Beret said one time and I quote: YOU CAN FILL VOLUMES WITH WHAT YOU DON'T READ. Unqoute, I suppose that one should be quite use to this utter mis-use of the media, which only reports the negative, because appaerantly this is what sells. How many Democrats would bother to read the paper if they could only read the good news that either party has accomplished. To support this point, ask yourself why we no longer hear or read about gas prices. They have dropped drasticaly and therefore are no longer worth reading about or hearing about from the Democratic controlled media. Now the poor SOB'S have to find something else to bitch about and blame on the Bush Presidency. I think it's time that we start letting the legal system work and ignore the DNM. Submitted by weekapaug05 on October 04, 2006 - 4:32 PM.
That's so true how the media sells bad news. The only good news I ever read is in the sports section. Like with this hurricane season, it was reported that it was going to be the worst or record. Why, because Katrina was a bad storm and they wanted something else catastrophic to report on. And the states were barely touched by hurricanes this year. It’s as though the media is used to only report bad things in the world. That's why American's live in such fear. Turn on the TV, go on I'll wait, ok what's on? Same old same old. School shooting here, terrorist threat there, some politician did something awful and had to resign, some politician did something awful and got away with it, the new season of South Park is starting, etc. etc. etc. Submitted by imdstuf on October 04, 2006 - 9:42 PM.
There is nothing to prove about Foley, he admited his guilt. The only question now is about the speaker of the house. That is something we have to find out all the facts about, whether he know about Foley sooner than he let on. As for gas prices you should be glad they are not talking about that. If the media was as left as you claim they would be questioning why it suddenly drops down with elections nearing. If it shoots up after the elections the top Republicans need to be hauled off to one of their secret prisions. Submitted by weekapaug05 on October 05, 2006 - 9:41 AM.
Saw this quote this morning and I thought it was right on: "What we don't have to do is allow our friends on the left to lecture us on morality," Gingrich said. "There's a certain stench of hypocrisy." Way to go Newt! Submitted by imdstuf on October 06, 2006 - 10:28 AM.
Yes, Newt, the man who left his first wife while she was ill and in the hospital then left his second wife for a congressional aide 23 years younger than himself, which he no doubt had been seeing before he suddenly decided to leave his wife for her. Yet he lead the charge against Clinton. Hypocracy does happen and on all sides. Submitted by g_dog_blog on October 05, 2006 - 9:06 PM.
My, my, my, my, my! Isn’t it amazing how ultra liberals band together and attack Republicans, call names and demand resignations without investigating and looking for facts? Will this most recent Foley issue help them see the light and back down from such asinine remarks and demands? I don’t think so. The Democrats will continue to make fools of themselves and make more unbelievable accusations. Look at the two most recent that comes to mind would be Carl Rove and Dennis Hastert. In both cases, Democrats were quick to condemn and demand resignations. Carl Rove was found innocent of the charges. Now today in Drudge Report exclusive Dennis Hastert receives his vindication. The report states: According to two people close to former congressional page Jordan Edmund, the now famous lurid AOL Instant Message exchanges that led to the resignation of Mark Foley were part of an online prank that by mistake got into the hands of enemy political operatives, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal. According to one Oklahoma source who knows the former page very well, Edmund, a conservative Republican goaded an unwitting Foley to type embarrassing comments that were then shared with a small group of young Hill politicos. The prank went awry when the saved IM sessions got into the hands of political operatives favorable to Democrats. The primary source, an ally of Edmund, adamantly proclaims that the former page is not a homosexual. The prank scenario was confirmed by a second associate of Edmund. Both are fearful that their political careers will be affected if they are publicly brought into the investigation. The prank scenario only applies to the Edmund IM sessions and does not necessarily apply to any other exchanges between the former congressman and others. The news comes on the heels that Edmund has hired former Timothy McVeigh attorney, Stephen Jones. So, the IM’s were a prank. Democrats and the new media sat on the IM’s for about a year and did nothing. Just before an election, the revelation of new (or a year old, but lets not get picky) information causes the Democrats to call for Hastert’s resignation? And liberals say George Bush is not to be trusted? This is partisan politics in the highest order. Where is the outrage that a reporter was too busy to move on this information while a homosexual child molester was on the loose in Washington, D.C.? Where is the outrage that key Democrats knew of this information a year ago and allowed a homosexual child molester to have access to pages? I think they knew Foley was not a child molester but are using this issue to either sway Republicans into voting Democrat or convince them not to vote at all. The amazing thing is that it appears that the IM thing is nothing more than a hoax. If this is true, will we hear Democrats apologize for their slander? But, as usual, I have digressed a little. FrozenOne described it best in an earlier statement; “It's not right by any means what Foley did and he should be punished for it if proven guilty in a court of law. However, it appears now a days that people are found guilty by the Democratic run news media before it reaches that point.†The underlined section is the important part. The framework of our legal system is that a person is innocent until proven guilty. Foley admitted guilt, Hastert has said he did his job based on the facts he had and the issue was resolved. imdstuf, mydwtc, and the rest of the liberals that comment on these blogs attacking Republicans and the President need to wait until the smoke clears before mindlessly following the Democrat cues. This is a perfect example of the blind leading the blind. How about “wag the dog Here is a novel idea! Why don’t we investigate and if there is merit, try them in a court of law rather than on the television and Internet? Submitted by imdstuf on October 06, 2006 - 10:54 AM.
There were reports that republicans told Hastert about Foley (not talking about IMs, but emails) before recent events so Republicans were the ones sitting on the situation. Republicans in power will try to keep these things from a court of law. We should move on from this issue though. I care that these Democrats and Republicans worry about getting us out of Iraq so we can focus on actual threats such as Iran and North Korea. Iraq was not a threat and it has drained our resources and taken the country's focus away from other things. As much as I hate those other countrys' leaders I don't blame them for wanting to have arms since GW proved he will attack nations whether we have proof of them being armed or not. Submitted by g_dog_blog on October 06, 2006 - 1:07 PM.
We should move on? Then why didn't you ignore my response? You should have not responded and moved on yourself before telling us to move on. Instead you give a half-baked response that attempts to put the blame back on the Republicans. It appears that the Democrat attack just may backfire in their face, so lets move on. This is typical of liberals. Are liberals such as yourself running out of things to say? Is it getting a little too hot in the kitchen with the facts being made known? This has all of the markings of another Democrat screw up and they want to move on before things heat up too much. The fact as we know them: (The content of the emails in question have not been made public so we really do not know what has been said.) 1. Foley sent inappropriate emails to minors, not illegal, no sexual act was committed that we know of, to an underage page. 2. All pages were told about Foley and his possibly suggestive emails. 3. Hastert was told about it, he investigated, found no foul play but did find inappropriate emails. 3. Hastert approached Foley and asked him to stop, Foley did. 4. I do not remember the source of this info but the FBI investigated and came to the same conclusion that Hastert did. Here are a few important questions no one is asking: 1. Why did the page engage in conversation through email with Foley? 2. If there really is new more condemning IM's why was the info not given to Hastert instead of the news media? 3. Why did Democrats and News reporters wait until October 2006 to bring this info to the public? What did Hastert do wrong? But, imdstuff, the real answer I would like to hear from you is; after mentioning in a email that you voted for George W. Bush twice, why do you later say that Ralph Nader is your candidate? The Foley issue is far from over; you can bank on it. Submitted by imdstuf on October 09, 2006 - 2:26 PM.
Well g_dog_blog, to be honest, the network that sat on the IMs was ABC. The network owned by Disney. The one who said they could not distribute Fahrenheit 9/11 yet who could show Path to 9/11 on primetime tv and not tell everyone it was a work of fiction. If the Foley issue is not over as you say, then unfortunately that is bad news for the Republican Party you hold so dear. It is not going to hurt the Democrats as they are starting to back out of the way and let the Republicans in fight to see who all takes a fall. Meanwhile North Korea has tested a nuclear bomb. Our hard headed president will still not return to bilateral talks with them. I am not going to say those talks would certainly do anything, but they sure cannot hurt. This is just proof again he does not use diplomacy first. He does not use it at all. We do now need heavy sanctions on North Korea, but we also need open discussions. If our President turns his back on other world leaders, whether he likes them or not, they have no reason to work alongside him for compromises on disagreements. Our past presidents may not have liked certain foreign leaders, but they engaged them in talks atleast. That is part of the job. Then again maybe W wanted this to happen all along. Maybe he is looking for more world trouble so he can spread his war machine. Submitted by mgroothand on October 14, 2006 - 11:47 AM.
Ambassador John Bolton was chosen for the exact opposite reason that you claim. That is the also the reason he is rocking the UN boat. I hope he sinks it but he needs help from others in the boat. Now that Kofi is almost gone there will be another grace period and honeymoon for the new guy from S. Korea to prove himself. |
