shhh… you’ll wake the MuslimsPosted by gimpel on September 20, 2006 - 6:37 AM I like this Pope Benedict. This is the quote that caused all the uproar: Byzantine Christian Emperor Manuel Paleologos II, original speaker of the infamous Papal quote, ruled from 1391-1425. Today, if you look up Constantinople in most encyclopedias, the entry might say- The Catholic Church once fought Muslims sword to sword. Some Somalian Islamic fascists certainly prefer the sword. They killed a poor, physically defenseless nun, Sister Leonella Sgorbati, 65. "She realized that she was dying, because she kept saying 'I can't breath.' Her last words were: 'I forgive; I forgive,'" according to her fellow sisters who spoke to CISA Sept. 18 in Nairobi, Kenya. http://www.catholic.org/international/international_story.php?id=21312 The Muslims are awake. This is the offensive paragraph: Submitted by weekapaug05 on September 20, 2006 - 10:05 AM.
Where are all the Muslims that belive what these people are doing is wrong? Everyday it seems like I read the news or flip on the tube and they're always showing some extremist screaming death to the infidels. Why aren't more Muslims that believe that the Muslim faith is one of peace and understanding speaking up against these militant and hateful Islamic groups? Is it just because the extreamist make a good headline story or will catch people's attention? The news always seems to report todays top story, and there's the key word: story. Why when I turn on the news I don't hear "here are today's facts"? There seems to be a lot of just one sidedness to a lot of what's reported. On these slow news days where CNN follows some police chase in southern California for 2 hours, why don't they have a little more Q & A with some of these more pressing topics to get more information about them, more facts and oppinions from some of these people? It's the evil media. You hit the nail on the head. "Good" Muslims aren't news worthy. Nothing good is news worthy. That's the biggest problem our home, aka: earth, has. Facts are facts, yes, but good facts don't seem to make it into the headlines. They blow us away with the bad facts. Oh my God! The sky is falling! That seems to be the only thing the media concentrates on. Doom and gloom. Submitted by mgroothand on September 20, 2006 - 10:26 AM.
weekapaug05: The obvious answer to your first question is, there are none. If there were any, they would call a press conference denouncing not their faith but the actions of the "few" that make the rest of them look bad. Specifically in this country, Muslims have the right to free speech, but their overwhelming silence is deafening. If Muslims here do not speak up against their radical bretheren, they sure won't do it in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq et al. However, until they do so, they will continue to further alienate people from all other religions in all other civilized nations. Submitted by weekapaug05 on September 20, 2006 - 11:16 AM.
I think maybe these people would feel like they are making themselves a target. I'm sure a militant Muslim would strike down a peaceful rational Muslim that believes people of all faiths can live in harmony real quick just to silence them. I would think that would be more of an offense than being an infidel. We need some Muslims to start blogging with us to answer some of these questions. Submitted by mgroothand on September 20, 2006 - 12:25 PM.
That a militant Muslim would strike down a moderate Muslim is a fact of life in Iraq everyday. Moderates that apply for much needed jobs in their police force, armed forces etc. are struck down by carbombs or other such devices. No, infidels are to be converted or killed. Here, in the US, any talk or deeds by Muslims to oppose another Muslim for their religious beliefs, or interpreting it differently, will be rewarded by being totally ostracized since killing for that reason is against the law in this country. Submitted by imdstuf on September 20, 2006 - 11:47 PM.
The target thing might be right. They would have to watch their backs from both directions. Even if a skinhead in prison sees the errors of his ways he would be foolish to disassociate himself from his group while in prison because if he was not part of any gang there both the other skinheads and many of the black gangs, latino gangs, etc would kick the sh** out of him. Again, you hit the nail on the head...or the lack there of. The rads wouldn't hesitate for a minute to chop off any non-compliant muslim brother's head if they disagreed with them. Didn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. Oooo, kinda sounds like the mark of the beast a little bit, doesn't it? You no play the game? You no work, eat, or LIVE...hmmm. Maybe Christians have it all wrong about who the antichrist will really be. Even Nostradamus (for those that don't give a rip what the bible says) tells us that the antichrist will wear a blue TURBAN. Turban? I know there are Christians in the Middle East, but c'mon....One that has enough clout to make Christians in the West that he's Christ? I don't think so. Gimpel, you say you like this pope Benedict. Now, if he would only change some of the doctrine such as allowing the Catholic clergy to marry and live a normal life, allow all Catholics (especially in third world countries) to practice birth control beyond the rhythm method, I might like him too. Submitted by imdstuf on September 20, 2006 - 11:53 PM.
We are getting off topic, but I thought the Catholic church had started taking a much more relaxed position on birth control. As for priests marrying, that is not something that he can just up and change without anyone batting an eyebrow. He might encounter much strife on that one. Submitted by mgroothand on September 21, 2006 - 12:31 PM.
Off topic, yes somewhat, but we were discussing Il Papa. Africa is the fastest Catholic growing continent in the world. Ancient local tribal beliefs are being replaced by Christianity and specifically Catholicism. AIDS is also more rampant in Africa then any other continent. The use of condoms to battle AIDS is widely known in the world as being very effective. The Catholic church forbids the use of condoms purportedly for birthcontrol. All Africa needs is more babies, often born with HIV. Submitted by imdstuf on September 21, 2006 - 2:13 PM.
While you bring up good points, I do not see the Cahtolic Church changing on the marriage thing. It is very steeped in tradition. They did stop doing masses only in Latin though, so it does sometimes change. Again, I think they have lightened up on the birth control issue. I think the marriage thing may also cut down on molestations if they are really occuring as often as people claim. Then again on that "Dateline: to catch a predator" They caught a married ministor trying to come meet an underage girl. Submitted by mgroothand on September 22, 2006 - 12:09 PM.
imdstuff: Not in my lifetime will we see Catholic clergy marrying but the only thing constant is change. Denying a healthy heterosexual relationship between adults only causes that to go underground and manifests itself in other, more deviant, ways. While I'm not suggesting that homosexuality is deviant, certainly the Vatican does not endorse it. Yet homosexuality among the Catholic clergy is rampant. That only recently we have heard of child abuse by priests is only the tip of the iceberg, it's been going on for centuries all over the western world. Child abuse by nuns, especially in schools for children without parents, is/was also prevalent. Corporal punishment meted out by these nuns was often sadistic. In a nutshell, when a godgiven basic instinct is forcefully denied by any entity, it will come out in some other form. That's man, that's nature, that's it. Another good blog, gimpel. You wrote, "The Muslims are awake. If, heaven forbid, the Democrats gain control again, it would be interesting to see how quickly they wake up and their opinions change about Iraq. Republicans need to wake up also. Democrats like Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Jesse Jackson, Al Gore, are taking their anti-American message around the world and nothing is done about it. Wake up America, some of the bloggers are correct in saying that our freedom is being taken from us, only they blame the wrong person. They need to blame the Democratic Party, Islamofascists, and the Muslim Radical Religion. Submitted by mgroothand on September 22, 2006 - 8:58 AM.
Thanks for the comment possibly absolving me from being an ultra liberal. I assure you I'm not. Furthermore, Carter, Clinton, Jackson and Gore need to be fitted for a muzzle and have their passports revoked. Also, most liberals are in a self induced coma and can not wake up. Where is the Muslim Outrage over the killing of innocent women and children in Iraq; where is the Muslim Outrage over the kidnapping and beheading of journalists; where is the Muslim Outrage over Saudi guards forcing young girls back into a burning building because there heads were not covered. For a religion to be so peaceful and loving, I just don't get it. Submitted by mgroothand on September 22, 2006 - 10:02 AM.
trollison: here is an announcement in today's (9/22) A/C: Muslims to gather for prayer at center Why don't you go there and ask them? Submitted by Augustagirl on September 22, 2006 - 1:41 AM.
Every American citizen should read "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam" by Robert Spencer, available from Amazon.com. I began my research into Islam with this book and learned immediately that Islam is not a religion of peace and love. Direct quotes from the Koran confirm the Pope's recent statements about the religion of the sword. It is imperative that Americans learn how Islam (and not just Muslim extremists) plan domination of America (and the rest of the globe) so that we are armed to combat what they intend for us. Osama bin Laden called Americans to Islam in his November 2002 Letter to the American People by telling us that "It is the religion of jihad in the way of Allah so that Allah's word and Religion reign Supreme." Everyone should definitely read the book you suggested, but the basics of what's going on shouldn't have to be described in a book. People need to only pay attention to what's going on all around them. It's so obvious. So unfortunately, I think you are preaching to the chior....because the ones that can't pick up the idea just from watching the news, are hopeless. Reading the book probably won't change anybody's mind about whether Islam is pro or con violence. Everyone sees what they want to see...whatever suits their agenda, even if it's not the obvious. Where in his speech or a lecture, not a sermon, to a group of students, at a university, did he say he was speaking for God? Do you think he would speak for God speak that way 24/7? You write "God is infallible..." and I would agree with that statement but the Pope is human making him... human and prone to making mistakes like everyone else. He would be the first to tell you that. Submitted by jrs022254 on September 22, 2006 - 11:16 AM.
For all the rehtoric of how peace loving Islam is, there is not any denunciation of the terrorists and their acts perpetrated on the innocent an fellow muslims. I see the quote made long ago and now brought out by the pope is accurate and a self fufilling prophcy. The leaders of the Muslim World do not speak out against the violence, instead lend their voices to encourage more violence and bloodshed..all in the name of Allah. One does not hear the voice of reason comming from any of the Clerics or holy men of Islam. Submitted by 61markh11 on September 22, 2006 - 3:25 PM.
The Pope apologizes ad nauseum and yet the Muslim rant ad nauseum. They kill a nun in Somalia and burn his image in effigy, yet if a Christian burned some Imam's image in effigy, there would be no end to the violance perpetrated against Christians. So much for "peaceful" Islam. Submitted by FrozenOne on September 24, 2006 - 7:46 PM.
Well gimpel! You have started an excellant blog this time around and perhaps it should have been labeled, "MUSLIMS HAVE AWAKEN THE INTELLIGENT AMERICANS". With the exception of one, I felt that all these comments were worthy of reading, because we are finally realizing that the Muslim religion is violent and brutal. They will even turn on their own if they feel that those individuals have betrayed them. This has been proven all though out history, that the Muslim religion preaches violence and that force is used to make countries and their peoples convert or else face certain death. It appaulses me that certain people on these blogs would blame America and our foreign policy on the way the Muslims tend to act toward America. Muslim violence an hatred can be traced all the way back to the 16th & 17th century well before this GREAT NATION even exsisted, so I suppose that shoots down the theory of America sticking her nose in where it did not belong, since we weren't even born yet. But I suppose that those one or two ignorant ones will some how try to tie the two together, perhaps thru time travel or something. I know! President Bush is really a time traveler from the ancient days of Rome seeking revenge on the Muslims with modern weapons. Face it America! We are considered the great Satan of the west because we have all the freedoms to do what we like, just the opposite of the Muslim believes. Here in the real world we can pray daily if we want and in the Muslim world you have to pray or die like the infidel that you are. Here in the real world our women don't have to cover their beauty, in the Muslim world you will be forced back into a buring building for not covering your face. Strange world we live in, but it has to play out to the end of time. Sounds like I really got off track, sorry gimpel. As for you Pope Benedict, stick to your guns and do not apologize for quoting someone elses opinion, after all we are all use to the opinionated ones on these blogs never apologizing, or are you afraid that extremely radical fanatic terrorists will bomb your vatican? Reverting back to my barbaric military state of mind, I say kill them all and let God sort them out. |
