The Swiss won’t even profile a dog?

Posted by gimpel on August 28, 2006 - 6:36 AM

In Geneva, every dog, regardless of size or breed, must have a muzzle.
From news reports:
The new law came after an 18-month-old boy was attacked by a pit bull in a city park, leaving the child badly disfigured. It applies to all the city's 30,000 dogs. Lawbreakers will be fined.
The Geneva toddler has undergone five operations and remains hospitalized after being disfigured by the pit bull. The incident followed nationwide shock last year when a Turkish boy was torn to pieces and killed by a dog near Zurich.

Obviously, a small group of overly aggressive pit bulldogs, or other big aggressive dogs, are the problem. Why does Grandmama’s little Fifi have to wear a muzzle?

And, what did the toddler do to make the dog hate him?

Unfortunately you never know which dogs will be agressive, although I doubt Fifi could do much harm to any kid over 5. Still, if that is the most serious problem the Swiss have, I would not worry too much about the dog owners there.

No one wants to talk about this. Come on people. I know it is not politcally correct, but I don't like chihahas, poodles and other little yip yip dogs. Others need to chime in!

Across the street from me lives a loose running Chihuahua(sp?),an ankle biter. It doesn't bark, instead it screams each time I go to my mailbox as it furiously charges my ankles. The owners think it's cute and think I'm mean when I kick at the little son-of-a-bitch (literally speaking). Talking to the owners about their little bastard is not unlike talking to a donkey (they must be Democrats). Complaining to the authorities would make me the laughing stock of the neighborhood. A grown 200 pound man bitching about a 4 pound "dog" (an overgrown rat is a more fitting description)So...I grin and bear it. Wish it were a bear, I'd shoot the SOB claiming self defense. That's my chime imdstuf

If you weigh 200 lbs I imagine you can kick it a good ways, haha

Loose dogs are a hazard to themselves and others. They cause car and bicycle accidents (my daughter's ankle was bitten by a labrador the first and last time she rode her bicycle to the corner store with her friends), catch and spread disease, make people fearful to take a walk in their own neighborhoods, knock over trashcans and spread unsanitary litter everywhere. They may also injure or impregnate other dogs who ARE secured in their own backyards. This is not fair to responsible dog owners. This also strains the animal control system, which taxpayers are paying for. God forbid someone gets hurt while trying to protect themselves from a charging dog that thinks it has been cornered. I've been told to shoot the strays, but alhthough I have award-winning shooting skills and would have no trouble hitting my target, I will not take the chance of a bullet going through and through the animal and on to hurt someone in another yard. Shooting at an animal is not a realistic option for people in neighborhoods. There are very few people who would shoot an animal on their property unless it was lunging at them, and then it is probably too late to prevent injury to yourself. So owners, please secure your dogs with collars, tags, runs and/or fencing if they are outside much of the day or night. Be respectful and thoughtful of your neighbors' needs and rights as well as your own.
