Hey! Someone sent a letter!

Dear Gimpel,
We are retired gentle people. Wasps have built a nest on our front porch. Our neighbors across the street were bitten by wasps on their porch. They tell us to ignore the wasps and they’ll go away. But wasps have taken over their front and back porch. They go in and out through a side door. They still say they are ignoring the wasps, that soon they’ll just go away.
We do move slowly, and thus far have not disturbed a single wasp. Some of them actually seem quite moderate. We did stop using our front porch rockers, but that wasn’t too much of an inconvenience. We just stay out back, mainly, or in the house.
But next week our tiny grandchildren are coming to visit. They move quickly, and do make use of the freedom of childhood. They will probably use our front door, and may even want to play on our front porch.
Is there any way we can protect them from the wasps? We don’t want to hurt the wasps. Our neighbors never hurt their wasps. We are also so very afraid of being stung. Do wasps ever just leave?

Dear Wasp appeasers,
You might try putting a screen cage over the wasp nests. Be quick, starting with the biggest one first. The down side is that you can never remove the cage.
You can spray them with wasp killer, and be done with the problem entirely. Your neighbors won’t like it, but they will be too concerned with their own problem to bother you.
You’ll have to risk being stung with either of those solutions. And, you did say some of the wasps seemed moderate. Maybe the others will listen to them. Remember, children can take stings much easier than older people. They may cry, but the pain will go away. Just buy band-aids and a good over-the-counter antiseptic. This could be a good opportunity to teach them about tolerance.
Grandchildren do cause problems, don’t they?

Aww Gimpel, there's no one to rant to about religion and politics on this post! I really wanted to play more devil's advocate and convert everyone to Buddhism this week.

The reason these wasps have taken over your porch is because George Bush did not give you prior warning of the invasion. Ted Kennedy told us all that this would happen and we didn't listen. Fox News says the president maintains that these wasps have weapons of mass distruciton and will bite or sting without warning.

Do you use different types of screen for the cages as well as different kinds of wasp killers for conservative and liberal wasps? What about wasps that are of different religions? If one of these liberal wasps bite should I use a Flinstone bandaid or the Droopy Dog bandaid?

Well, I think Lamont is the absolute greatest supporting actor of all time. Better than Barney, better than Fonzie, better than Kramer… anybody
And I’m willing to defend that assertion…

I believe that you are refering to Lamont from the popular show Sanford as Son. Better than Kramer and The Fonz ... bold statement! Carlton (Fresh Prince) is definately better than Lamont ... he could dance and had nice sweaters.

Six from Blossom (a.k.a. Jenna Von Oy) gets my vote :)

yes, Carlton and Six were exceptional supporting actors, no doubt, but neither had the depth of Lamont. He was engaged several times, got in fights, had good friends and bad enemies, and generally made everyone around him a better actor. He may not have appeared to have much acting talent himself, but that is one of the qualities that made him so effective. It made the others talent seem even better.
I don't think Fred could have carried the show by himself. It would have degraded into something a bit vulgar.
Will Smith could have carried Fresh Prince all by himself, with the help of a few pretty girls. Hmmm... I guess anyone could do that, though.
Plus, Lamont explored several religions, or spiritual activities.
He went to church a few times with Aunt Esther, did yoga, meditated, got left at the alter, drank, didn't drink...
very versatile guy.
And, he got to wear bell bottoms and those big puffy sleeved '60's shirts...

How do you guys get off track so easily? The point of this topic is so much more serious than the supporting character of a sitcom or a cartoon.

Gimpel! Are you trying to make your point, or are you going to let week make fun of your wasps?

Fact is, if Saddam Hussein could bury an entire fleet of fighter jets in the desert over there, what makes you think he couldn't bury (or hide) WMDs in the same manner? That's a big place over there. Try burying a 2 litre coke bottle in the middle of Texas and see how long it takes you to find it.

I bought a pair of New Balance shoes yesterday and I've got to say they're way more comfortable than the Adidas running shoes I had previously owned. I find that the wider foot bed in New Balances excel in giving my feet optimum comfort. I'm willing to defend that New Balance are the optimum foot wear for jogging.
