Kevin Benderman, a soldier, said those words after refusing to return to Iraq. He was arrested, and court-martialed.
His wife said this, before a Cynthia McKinney congressional briefing:
“But a true leader is not someone who blindly follows laws written by men. A true leader is someone who leads with adherence to his own obligation to humanity.†My husband went to war. He saw mass graves filled with dead bodies of old people, women and children. He watched dogs feeding on their bodies. How would that affect you?â€
Well, perhaps it could strengthen his “obligation to humanity.â€
Our “more peaceful, humane existence†was earned by the soldiers who stayed.
Cynthia McKinney said, “…Kevin Benderman is in the brig because he did not want to kill innocent little girls and little boys and women and men in Iraq."
Oh my. What a high opinion she has of our soldiers.
Ezra Pound wrote a poem that seems to describe the way Cynthia, the pop media, and celebrities look at the war and our country. This is a stanza from “Hugh Selwyn Mauberlyâ€, written shortly after WW1.:
There died a myriad,
And of the best, among them,
For an old bitch gone in the teeth,
For a botched civilization.
He wrote this poem, then went to Italy and supported Mussolini and exhorted hatred of Jews. He so hated western civilization that he made anti-American radio broadcasts during WWII. Such speech was then called anti-American. Now it is called “freedom.â€
Thanks to our soldiers, we have no “mass graves filled with dead bodies of old people, women and children.â€
Ours is not “a botched civilization.†We restore such civilizations.
Ours is not “an old bitch gone in the teeth.†Freedom is constantly renewed.
Ours is indeed the last great hope for mankind.
And, thanks to our soldiers, the safest place in the history of man is where Ezra Pound was born, Idaho, or any other state in this great country.
And thanks to our soldiers, we can all live a more peaceful, humane existence.
