Make your nominations for the Augusta Lynx Hall of Fame

Posted by Billy Byler on October 15, 2008 - 7:55 AM

After 10 years of professional hockey in Augusta, Lynx fans have seen their fair share of talented players skate through James Brown Arena. A decade's worth of history has accumulated, and now it appears it will soon have a home.

The Augusta Ice Sports Center, now under the direction of former Augusta Lynx defenseman Wes Swinson, is in the process of creating an Augusta Lynx Hall of Fame. A designated area in the lobby of Augusta's only public ice skating venue once housed an air hockey table and arcade games. Soon it will be a shrine to hockey in Augusta.

Skaters like Louis Goulet and Joel Perrault seem obvious choices. There's also former Lynx broadcaster Tom Callahan who reached an NHL broadcasting booth this fall with the Nashville Predators.

So who would you like to see honored in an Augusta Lynx Hall of Fame? Make your nomination below.

John Whitwell and Martin LaPointe for their comittment to the Lynx and great defensive play. Wes Swinson for delivering the greatest knock out punch in Lynx history. Louis Goulet, Jonas Soling, and Lars Petterson for their offensive skill. Judd Lambert. Dan Kopec for being the all time greatest goon. All Lynx players who played in the NHL. Dan Wiebe for leading the Lynx to their highest finish in the division standings ever, fourth place in their first season.

"Skaters like Louis Goulet and Joel Perrault seem obvious choices" Louis I agree with, but Perrault???????????? He played 3 games here. Lambert, Lapointe, and Whitwell along with Goulet all seem to be legitimate choices.

Perrault was talented, but only played 3 Lynx games. He doesn't belong here. There are a number of other Lynx, who went on to play in the NHL, who are far more deserving of Lynx Hall of Fame than Perrault, who is certainly no "obvious choice" at all. My all time 20 would be: 1. Dan Kopec 2. Judd Lambert 3 Lars Petterson 4. Jonas Soling(NHL) 5. Joachin Gage(NHL) 6. Louie Goulet 7. Zac Bierk(NHL) 8. Darren Colbourne 9. Bob Berg 10. Paul Vincent 11. Aaron Slattengren 12. Wes Swinson 13. Kenny Tasker 14. Jason Saal 15. Colt King 16. John Whitwell 17. Marty LaPointe 18. Louie Dumont 19.Ryan Lang 20.Lance Galbreath (not necessarily in that order).

I was just surfing the web and came across the talk of a wall of fame. That is a great idea! You all have been talking about players from the past but one who sticks to mind who hasn't been mentioned is Chris Thompson. The first three years of the organization and the city were crazy for the lynx and not saying there isnt support but for anyone around that firsta couple years lets be honest it was nuts. Lars Pettersen scored five goals in a period and Thompson later did it as a 20 yearold rookie wow. He was something else to watch in your face always starting s---t and scorings goals. If anyone can remember when he was traded with still no real explanation there was a threat of a walk out and the rink was covered with signs towards the management when Greensboro came back to play 3 days later. During the first intermission we gave him a standing ovation nothinghas even come close to showing how much a city cared about a player and the enjoyment he was. Anyways just a memory of a player that really stood out in the last 10 years of lynx history.
