Can You Match That?

Posted by LaTina Emerson on September 08, 2008 - 9:57 AM

If you’d like to save money at the cash register, look for stores that match prices. One local retailer matches printed ads.

Here’s the tip of the day:

Wal-Mart matches prices with any local competitor’s printed ad, according to Melissa O’Brien, a spokeswoman at Wal-Mart Stores Inc. The discount is called the Ad Match program.

“It’s part of our commitment to be a low price leader in every market,” Ms. O’Brien said.

In order to receive the savings, customers must provide an ad for “an identical product.” For instance, the product must have the same label, packaging and size. The item must also be a brand name product, such as Hunt’s or Kellogg’s. The program is applicable to dried or canned goods, milk and other staples.

The savings do not apply to private label, individual store brands or produce, Ms. O’Brien explained.

The Ad Match program prevents customers from having to travel around to different stores to get all of the items on their list, she said. Wal-Mart also accepts manufacturer coupons.
