tragedy in a small alabama town

Posted by hbk459 on February 26, 2006 - 5:58 AM

on super bowl night the Smiths was at home, the wife saids i hear someone crying, the husband dismisses it,seconds later a light knock is at the door,he goes, opens it up,what he sees will change his life for ever. There was a 5 year old boy on his knees crying, over to the left there was a 6 month old little girl,he yells for his wife, they get the kids inside,he asked the boy wheres your parents, the boy said mom is down the road,at first he thought what a lot of people would have thought she left these kids down the road,he then asked the boy again when getting his thoughts back on track, the boy said shes down the road bleeding,i think shes dead.so the husband goes to his car goes down the road sees the mangeled car, thinking what later on in a tv interveiw he would say, this child carried his sister down this busy street and no one stopped,he gets out, trys to get the lady out of the car then finally someone stops and asked if he needs help, the cops, ambulance gets there gets the lady out,she stays in a coma for days. They was driving home and her cell phone rang she went to answer it,lost control of the car it flipped over 3 times busting out all the windows, then this 5 year old who could not wake his mom up gets his baby sister walks over 1 mile on a busy road stops at house after house knocking on doors, all of that to save his sister and mom.all those cars passed him by not 1 car stopped, thats what mr smith asked in his only interveiw,he said the boy was a hero and why didnt anyone stop to ask him why is he walking down this busy road with a baby?Thats the other tragedy, how can so many people see this and do nothing?i hope this is not the moral fabric spreading throughout the usa,my heart goes out to that little boy and his family,he is in every sense of the word a real life hero.

What an unconcern area to not see that child after he walked a mile for help. This world has so many evil and uncaring people in it. Shame on you Alabama residents in that area. They should be a shame of themselves. Someone had to have seen those kids and for them not to assist or help is down right evil. Thank God for the Lord guiding him to those folks home.

That is a shame how czn you let a little child pass u on a busy road with a baby and not even stop to try to figure out whats going on. people just worry about themselves all the time and not the people around them. I believe people need to take the time to help someone else they will feel alot better.

As a result of Mr. Smith being a Good Samaritan he will probably face a lawsuit once an attorney finds an angle to file suit for some bogus liability concocted for profit. Most likely if the mother dies Mr. Smith will face manslaughter charges for not running fast enough to save her life. Sound incredible? This is the society we live in sport fans, this is the real life trauma of why people look the other way. The legal system has made everyone cognizant, paranoid and indifferent. This is what they face when confronted with life and death decisions like this. It sounds extreme but believe me I’ve seen the unbelievable. Would I help this family? Damn right I would, but I’m the exception like the Smiths. Thank God for the Smiths of this world.

Mr. Smith will not face any lawsuits, due to the Good Samaritan Law!

You missed my point, I was using a perceived rationale for not stopping to help, but if you want to engage in debate read the Statute

The basic principles are good with this law but it does not mean you are held without liabilty.(Good Samaritan Statute) To trigger the protection of such an act, several conditions must be satisfied, so there's the loophole for litigation.

People are rarely sued for helping in an emergency, but the existence of Good Samaritan Laws does not mean that some one cannot sue. Good Samaritan Laws do not provide absolute protection from malpractice. Each state has guidelines but it applies to healthcare professionals and doctors who treat injured people. It was designed to protect them but not with out conditions. Read the Statute (It varies by state laws that are currently used for this purpose)

What did those people have on blinders, couldnt they see those children? but God knew what place to send those children too There is a blessing in store. But its not about that that, Its about people having a heart people have become so complasent .The bible says that iniquity will abound that the love of many shall wax cold.and thats what is happining in this world. We better wake up before its to late.

we are human beings and when it comes down to if we get sued or charges filed against us before we stop and help another human being thats sick.thats one of the reasons this wsorld is going to crap.we have lost the idea of what it means to be human,i dont think those people just rode by because they didnt want to be sued i think they thought someone else would do it,thats sad.we are always passing the buck to make our lives easier its sad.no wonder this planet is on a path of destruction, the so called humans thats on this planet really dont deserve this life, not when things like this is happening everyday.

there is no reason in the world to not help people involved in wrecks or find out why 2 children are walking by themselves. we had a bad wreck on 1-20 and all these people went on by till a man stopped on the other side of the road to help. a tractor trailer stopped and called for help.a off duty emt stopped and helped us. my wife broke her chest bone and left ankle.

iam sorry to hear that,i think humanity has lost just that humanity, wshat is wrong with everyone?i have stopped several times when i saw someone broke down, helped them push their car out of the road, let them use my cell phone to call someone to pick them up and never thought twice about it,i know in this day you got to be carefull but be real,if you was stuck on the road via wreck, broke down wouldnt you want someone to help?

Well I have been on both sides of that situation. I had a bad car wreck many many years ago and I would have died if a doctor hadn't stopped and kept me from bleedign to death. Did I even think about sueing him. Never crossed my mind. a while back I was going to work and I had a fuel leak and my car caught on fire while driving, and I mean on fire. it melted stuff from the engine to the rear tires. I pulled over and got the fire out. Did one person stop to help or see if I neede anything. Nope. Well 1 guy did, he was a co-worker but this was well after the fact when he saw me waiting on a wrecker. sad sad world. only thing I think of is, if my wife and kids have something happen will someone help them! I know I would help someone else.
