Let Your Money Work For You

Posted by LaTina Emerson on August 05, 2008 - 3:18 PM

We’re all familiar with the concept of earning interest on money deposited in the bank. Now you can make money at your local grocery store. Food Lion is offering a special program to allow customers to earn some extra money for in-store purchases. The offer ends on Aug. 16.

Here’s the tip of the day:

If you convert your tax refund or stimulus rebate check into Food Lion gift cards, you will receive a 10 percent bonus per card. Customers can buy the gift cards in increments of $300. (That’s a lot of groceries, but if you shop at Food Lion regularly or have a large family, it might be worth the bonus.)

This is how much you’ll earn with the special offer:

$300 = $330 (one gift card)

$600 = $660 (two gift cards)

$900 = $990 (three gift cards)

$1,200 = $1,320 (four gift cards)

Here are some guidelines for the program:

1) The check cashing fee will be waived.
2) Only government checks will be allowed.
3) A proper form of ID required.
4) For joint checks, both parties must be present with proper ID.

You can also bring in cash for the gift card purchases, according to Karen Peterson, a Food Lion spokeswoman. She said the program applies to all Food Lion stores.

The program ends on August 16. For more information, visit your local Food Lion grocery store.
