WWE to film new reality show in Augusta
Officials with World Wrestling Entertainment are negotiating with local officials to film a reality show based on the drama and fisticuffs* involved with running local government. WWE Chairman Vince McMahon announced the creation of the “Richmond County RAW” series at a Thursday morning press conference highlighted by a tickle fight between Coliseum Authority member William Fennoy and community activist Woody Merry.
“We’re excited to bring this new form of reality television to the viewing public,” McMahon said. “The Richmond County Commission and Coliseum Authority offer excitement you just can’t get anywhere else.”
The series is under contract for an initial run of 12 half-hour episodes on Spike-TV, with re-runs to appear on Comedy Central. HBO has an option on the uncensored footage that cannot be aired on broadcast or cable TV.
Plans also include the possibility of expanding to a full hour should events warrant.
“If today’s any indication, we shouldn’t have any problem filling an hour with combative government inaction,” McMahon said.
When asked whether he worried about the show pulling viewers away from other WWE productions, McMahon punched the reporter in the throat before throwing him through a table that, having nothing else on it, was apparently set up for that purpose.
A crew member said that unused footage from the show, likely involving actual productive government meetings, would be packaged for a show that is being pitched to executives at Lifetime and C-SPAN3.
Note: So much potential, but so much non-reality. Translation: Fake as usual.
*An underused word, but a good word nonetheless.
