Odds and Ends

Just a few thoughts that have been swimming around in my big head

Falcons Draft

I thought that coach Mike Smith and GM Thomas Dimitroff wanted to build this team from the inside out.  I thought that meant building the offensive and defensive lines and then addressing other needs.  With big DT Glenn Dorsey sitting there the Falcons take "The new face of the franchise" Matt Ryan.  Then they trade up and take OT Sam Baker from USC.  I thought they would have been better served taking Dorsey at three and then Baker in the second round.  They had three second round picks and could have easily still picked either Brian Brohm or Chad Henne.  Would have loved to see Dorsey, Brohm, and Baker standing at the press conference holding up those jerseys.  At any rate I will still pull hard for Matt Ryan and the Falcons.

Hawks Playoff Run

Well break up the Hawks.  After looking dead in the water after two games in Boston, the Hawks have shown they still have some fight left in them by evening the series 2-2.  Joe Johnson absolutely took over in the 4th quarter of game 4.  And Josh Smith is becoming the best player you never heard of.  If he would just quit taking those outside shots.  The Hawks will be a team to be reckoned with for the next few years if they can acquire a consistent outside shooter.

Diamond Dogs

Folks, if you have never been to a University of Georgia baseball game you have missed out.  I have'nt been to a Braves game in years, but have been to Foley Field to catch the dogs on numerous occasions the past few years. Its only two hours away and a great family atmosphere.  The tickets are very affordable($6 for reserved seats and $3 for general admission), the food is always good and much less than Turner Field.  And the Diamond Dogs are having one heck of a season.  They are ranked in the top 10 in most polls and lead the SEC East with only a few weeks of regular season play left.  They have 7 regular season home games left so get out and support  the Diamond Dogs.  Hopefully another College World Series appearance is on the Horizon.

I use to feel the same way...until I went to a game in person.  And I fell in love with it.  Maybe its the whole college atmosphere...I don't know.  I will be at the UGA/Alabama game in a few weeks.  I cant wait.

I have to agree with BP. College baseball is worthless on TV (unless it's the college world series), but it's much better in person. I spent 3 1/2 years of college ignoring the sport before going to a game just to check that box before graduation. Three hours later, not going more often was one of my big regrets about my college experience.

Still, there's nothing quite like gameday at a major college football stadium...
