FLEMING ELEMENTRY

Posted by hbk459 on January 02, 2006 - 9:58 AM

When i was a youngster i had the priveladge of going to Fleming
on hwy 25,now its a different school, but the times i have had a chance to visit and i rode past there it always put a smile on my face. The good times, the bad times, the crush i had on my 4th grade teacher MRS CISICK,who i thought was so beautifull, well she was,to the teachers who did not like me,MRS SWEETENBURG,she respected me but did not like me,that taught me something that i still use to this day,you can dislike someone but respect them.
I fell in love, had my heart broke, that taught me how to bounce back from bad situations. We often overlook just how important those days really was,for alot of people they learned
important life lessons, some came away with nothing,i feel for those people, some say college is the best time in your life or high school i have to disagree, the 4 years i spent on peach orchard rd at fleming was the best school years,it made me who iam today,it made me see what i did not want to become, thank you
to all my teachers, the principal MR ELAM, all my freinds
who i shared that experince with, without each and every one of you there would be no me,thank you.

I went to Fleming in the late 60's and always remembered looking for the Piggy Wiggy,as I called it then, to find my way home. I remember the Principal carrying me across a mud puddle as I cried trying to find the Piggy Wiggy door I had to go out to get home. I guess my memory has slipped some because I don't remember any teacher's names. That was quite awile ago. Ha ha!

Yea the piggy wiggy,if i remember correctly it was on lumpkin rd,
i think iam not sure.I went there in 79,80,81,82, i had some wild times there, met some good people,my first love was there, she broke my heart so many times, but she was so sweet. That area has changed alot, there was a ice cream shop on the corner of 25 and lumpkin THE EAT A PLENTY i think was the name they had some great food.
I couldnt wait to leave there and go to MURPHEY,because i heard all these cool things, but when i got there i wanted to go back to FLEMING,i so wish i would have appreciated the time i was there alot more.

I do not live in the Augusta area anymore but really need to locate this gentleman. You can email me at bdjeanes@yahoo.com Thanks a bunch and Happy New Year to all.

I attended school there from 1964 until 1971. It was a great school and that area of south Augusta was a great place to live. I was lucky enough to have Mrs. Julia Heyman as my 6th grade teacher. I still think about things she said and wish she were alive so I could thank her for the positive influence she provided me. I rarely see any of my classmates; some are no longer with us. We should have a reunion...

yea there was some great teachers, and not so great teachers, the people who i thought would grow up to be somebody, the last time i saw them they was not being the somebody they could have been, then the other hand people who i thought would get no where has turned everything around.i would love to see my classmates from fleming,i know i was probally one of the ones who everyone thought i would be a failure, but thank god i managed to pull myself out of the dark hole i was falling into. Thanks mostly to my teachers in fleming.

Trivia question:

Does anyone remember what the Fleming mascot was?

Another trivia question:

What was the pony's name that lived next to the school, behind the house on Lumpkin Road?

I attended 3rd grade at Fleming. The 3rd grade classes met in the "community center," a 3 room frame building down the hill from the auditorium. My teacher was Mrs. McElveen (sp?). She lived in a house right behind Fleming school and I seem to remember she had an old airplane fuselage in her back yard which was used to store books.
