"Join the Condom Club"

Posted by Harriette on November 15, 2005 - 11:54 AM

I thought that would get your attention.

So did Berkley High.

It seems they have a new club this year and have included the details in their school to home email newsletter:

"...an e-mail from Berkeley High. The news was contained in the Student Daily Bulletin.

.... having sex? Join the Condom Club."

I'm appalled at the parent's closing statement.

Need I say more?

They're from Berkeley, California. Not exactly the Bible Buckle of the country. Get over it.

That's a typical "if it's not right in my backyard..." attitude.

Folks, it always seems to start in California and steamrolls east.

It's the "Get over it" crowd that are usually the ones that wake up in the aftermath and ask the all too late question, "What happened....?"

Dearest Harriette:

"It always seems to start in California"??? HELLLLLO, m'am! Where have you been for the past five decades? Berkeley has always been the hub of extreme liberalism and hippie-dippy left-wing mentality. Furthermore, high schools have been providing students with protection for years. Here, there, and damn near everywhere. Sounds shocking? Try asking your kids about it! I'm not saying that I agree with distributing prophylactics in schools. What I agree with is doing your job as a parent to your kids and not being intimidated or embarrassed to talk with them about sex & how they can protect themselves. If you do a decent enough job of parenting your own children, you won't have to worry about whether or not they've joined the 'Condom Club.' They'll be wise enough to make their own decisions.

I'm afraid that the "epedemic" is already here, my dear... and it's been here for years. Once again: get over it.

I'll be the first to admit that I have posted and re-posted this comment about four times.

I have decided to negate further combative commentary inasmuch as I have a comment that I posted on my previous blog post that pretty much sums up my position on comments like the "get over it" ones as well as why I post about circumstances (and comments) occurring in public schools exempting a presence of logic and morality.

Get over it or whatever...The real troubling point is "books vs condoms" If I have to explain why then we are already in more trouble than we may realize.

"Morality" as once existed in the United States is, in my opinion, a thing of the past. Let's face it: we cannot return to those halcyon days of yore. Children are engaging in sex - it's much better for society (that's ALL of us) if they use condoms.

Johnny cannot read but he sure knows how to put on a condom! For the good of society, We need to pray that he uses them. The last thing we need more of is ignorant non-educated kids as parents.
