April 1st declared “Augusta Commission Day” in Richmond County

Posted by News Abuser on September 25, 2007 - 7:40 PM

At a recent meeting, county commissioners voted on a resolution honoring their contributions to the Augusta area.

Acting on a suggestion made by an area resident, commissioners voted 10-0 to designate the first day of April as a day of self-recognition for their efforts.

Resident Mike Thomas tried to contain his delight as his suggestion went from absurd joke to reality before his eyes.

“A lot of people express their frustration with the situation in a variety of ways,” Thomas said. “This was just mine.”

Thomas said the idea came up during a poker game with friends the night before the meeting.

“I wasn’t really going to go through with it, “Thomas said, “but it’s amazing what four bottles of Steel Reserve will do for your self confidence.”

No word yet on plans to repeal the resolution, but it can be assumed the eventual move will likely be the second unanimous decision by commissioners since they took office.
