The wrong people speak out

Posted by Glynn Moore on August 31, 2006 - 12:52 PM

The TV reporter was interviewing a high school girl who said she enjoyed the new writing portion of the revamped SAT more than the math. Her entire answer was one sentence, yet I noticed that it contained "you know" three times and "like" twice. Gee, I wonder why the scores are down?

Video: Ninjas Making a Difference

Posted by tywebb on August 31, 2006 - 9:26 AM

If you think ninjas are only good for death and destruction, you need to watch this video. It shows the softer side of Ninjitsu, the bright side of the dark art, the compassion of the assassin.

Islam, we have met the enemy, and it is…

Video: Free running in Augusta

Posted by tywebb on August 30, 2006 - 9:57 AM

Some guys here in Augusta shot this parody of "free running", which apparently is quite a serious sport in at least one European country which will remain nameless. Well, OK, it's France.

Justice, make me a star!

Everybody goes 8-4

Posted by Scott Michaux on August 29, 2006 - 7:54 PM

I expect Bulldogs and Tigers in particular will bristle at the suggestion that their teams will finish the regular season with the exact same 8-4 records as their hated rivals -the Yellow Jackets and Gamecocks.

No “little blue dress” here…

Posted by gimpel on August 29, 2006 - 6:14 AM

It was all much ado about “chitchat.”
And Patrick Fitzgerald knew it all along.
He knew it less than two weeks into the investigation!

Random thoughts on the Emmys

Posted by Channing-100Proof on August 29, 2006 - 12:01 AM

I am an awards show junkie so naturally I had to watch the Emmy awards on Sunday. Here are a few of my thoughts on the show:

The Swiss won’t even profile a dog?

Posted by gimpel on August 28, 2006 - 6:36 AM

Obviously, a small group of overly aggressive pit bulldogs, or other big aggressive dogs, are the problem. Why does Grandmama’s little Fifi have to wear a muzzle?

Over half the country hated Lincoln

Posted by gimpel on August 24, 2006 - 6:32 AM

1864 was an election year.
The “Peace Democrats” (sound familiar?) called for a negotiated settlement (sound familiar?) with the Confederacy.
Lincoln’s reelection was seen as impossible by some in his own party. He was called a “Simple Susan,” a “Kentucky mule,” a “political coward,” a “butcher,” and “shallow, dazed, and utterly foolish.”

The future of rap is....K.Fed?

I don't know what is the saddest part of this clip. The way Britney looks or the way Kevin sounds.

Will Tereshinski shine?

Posted by Scott Michaux on August 22, 2006 - 4:41 PM

Sure, Joe Tereshinski wasn't the sexiest choice in the four-way battle to be Georgia's starting quarterback. But he was the safest choice.

OK, we should set a date…

Posted by gimpel on August 22, 2006 - 6:12 AM

And we should go ahead and set a date.
Why not tomorrow?

Do you have conservative tendencies?

Take The Weasel’s quiz and find out what you really are.

We fight them over there…

Posted by gimpel on August 21, 2006 - 6:16 AM

It would indeed be ironic, and cause irreparable damage to our liberty, if in blindly defending imaginary people against imaginary danger, we sanctioned the subversion of our national defense.

The fear also rises

And keeps a plane on the ground.
"There was no fuss or panic. People just calmly and quietly got off the plane. There were no racist taunts or any remarks directed at the men."

Thank a soldier.

They are held to the standards of gods.
Yet given no such glory.

Dr. King was “skinfolk”?

Posted by gimpel on August 17, 2006 - 6:23 AM

Is he still “kinfolk”?
And doesn’t that sound demeaning to put his name in that sentence?
I apologize.
But...

Snakes on a blog

Posted by tywebb on August 16, 2006 - 2:53 PM

In a previous post I mentioned that Snakes on a Plane will probably be the greatest movie ever. Now I am officially announcing that Samuel L. Jackson is probably the coolest actor of all time. If you don't believe me, watch his most recent interview on the Daily Show.

Why (some) conservatives like Leiberman

Posted by gimpel on August 16, 2006 - 6:27 AM

Well, it’s the integrity.
He isn’t conservative. Quite liberal, actually.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.
But he isn’t out of touch with reality.
And Democrats think there is indeed something wrong with that.

I'm shocked!

Posted by geekspeak on August 15, 2006 - 8:16 PM

I haven't posted in a while, so I thought I'd write up a couple tonight.

Well this is quite a milestone...

Faizal Baig, a pilot and Muslim, was recently denied a job flying planes for JetBlue Airways. He asked if being Muslim had anything to do with their decision.

Your enemy has attacked you many times.
You were victorious over each attack.
Nuclear weapons can destroy your country in one attack.
Your enemy is developing nuclear weapons.
Your enemy has vowed to destroy you.
