Dominoes and Trick Pool

Posted by tywebb on May 06, 2008 - 1:14 PM EST

If you've never seen a trick pool shot that lasted longer than a minute, then your wait is over. Not sure who he is or where he's from, but he's good.

Actually, he's not really good at pool, he's just good with dominoes. But that's not the point.

Watch and learn.

Finally: Double Decker Cars

Posted by tywebb on March 28, 2008 - 12:29 PM EST

Check out this British guy who engineered a double decker car out of two Smarts for a television show. And all it took was four huge bolts.

It looks pretty cool (though functionally useless), except the Smart is underpowered and slow already, nevermind when you double the weight. And whatever you do, don't swerve... just watch the video.

Nerds can jam? Who knew?

Posted by tywebb on March 19, 2008 - 8:10 PM EST

You spend your whole life with three certainties: Death, taxes, and nerds can't play music. Well, I've been proven wrong, sorta...

Viewed over 134,000 times, this guy uses a combination of software and keyboard effects to create some music and become semi-famous on YouTube. If you want to call something created with software and keyboard sound effects music. Either way, it's not bad listening.

Granted, being a software-based keyboard music star is kinda like being a Guitar Hero star: Yeah, it sounds pretty good, but it's not really musical talent and nobody's really impressed.

Feed the hungry by playing a game

Looking for an online game that will make you feel good about killing time? Play FreeRice, a word game that donates rice to the World Food Programme every time you play.

The website lets users play a word game to donate food to those in need. You get four choices, and for every word you define correctly, 20 grains of rice are donated. It might not seem like much, but if you play for a few minutes, it adds up quickly, and thousands of people play every day.

So far, the site has donated nearly 22 billion grains of rice (Click here to see the daily and monthly totals) since it was created in October, and that's not too bad.

The Ultimate Flopper

Posted by tywebb on February 29, 2008 - 2:49 PM EST
Watch the greatest "flop" in history as Carson Public Works Commission Chairman Jan Schaefer overreacts to being hit with a sheaf of papers. I don't know if the best part is the delay, the fall or the comments of the guy on the microphone who calls for the arrest of the "assailant."

Why nobody should ever mess with the U.S.

Posted by tywebb on February 07, 2008 - 10:22 AM EST

You've heard of automatic shotguns. You've heard of recoilless rifles. You've heard of 20+ round clips. You've heard of missile launchers.

Now combine all those features.

As one of the few shotguns developed exclusively for military use, the AA-12 (Auto Assault-12) boasts a 20 or 32 round clip, and the ability to fire dozens of different rounds ranging from crowd control bags to slugs to pellets to rockets. The internal recoil dampening mechanism means you can fire at over 300 rounds a minute without a significant loss of accuracy, and utilizes the forces involved to kick out spent shells and load the next into place. Awesome. Watch the video of this bad boy in action.

I've never felt safer than I do right now... which is ironic considering how dangerous this weapon is.

Your kids want this for Christmas -- please please please

Lokulokus are amazing Japanese pig toys -- you slam them on the floor to splat them flat, they slowly return to normal. Of course, they're only in Japan. And probably toxic. But you've got to watch the video.

Bizarre Commercials: Coke gets weird

Posted by tywebb on December 05, 2007 - 2:25 PM EST

Want to see a commercial where a man turns into a crazy bird while drinking a Coke through two straws so he can share it with complete strangers? Seriously.

I didn't think so, but it was worth a shot. Strangest thing I've seen in a long time.

Amusing Commercials: Political Edition 2

Posted by tywebb on November 23, 2007 - 12:51 PM EST
If this commercial was released in America before the California governor's election, Arnold would've never been elected to the position. Watch as a bunch of well dressed Japanese guys lose their minds during some sort of game.

Amusing Commercials: Political edition

Watch Arnold doing what Arnold does best, in this bizarre Japanese commercial that features him flexing while lifting large teapots and then eating noodles.

It's making me hungry just thinking about it...

Amusing Commercials: Mr. T for Snickers

Posted by tywebb on November 07, 2007 - 12:18 PM EST

We're going in a new direction with the weekly Old School Commercials blog. Now it's just any commercial that amuses us. Hopefully you'll enjoy it as well.

This week's featured spot is Mr. T telling a sissy soccer player to man up. And, in true Mr. T fashion, it involves a tank.

Now if that doesn't get you clicking, I don't know what will...

Old School Commercials: Crossfire

Posted by tywebb on October 31, 2007 - 1:11 PM EST

What an awesome game. The commercials alone made it more intense and cool than it actually was.

I know it's not really old school, but it's still cool.

And if you loved the commercial, you'll love this dramatic interpretation by Scott Gairdner:

Old School Commercials: Pete Rose sings Aqua Velva

Posted by tywebb on October 24, 2007 - 12:48 PM EST

If you've never heard Pete Rose sing the classics, you'll have to wait a little bit longer. Legendary baseball player and manager Pete Rose sings the Aqua Velva theme in this commercial from 1976.

Ohh, and what's with the concessions guy's womanly hair?

Old School Commercials: Big League Chew

Posted by tywebb on October 17, 2007 - 1:41 PM EST

Imagine a product designed to encourage kids to pretend they were chewing tobacco, and there's no outcry.

Gotta love the 80s...

Strangely enough, I bought a pack (of Big League Chew, not chewing tobacco) about two months ago. So they must have been doing doing something right...

Any Mario Bros. fans out there?

Posted by tywebb on October 03, 2007 - 12:17 PM EST

If you have any fond memories of Super Mario Bros (the original), and you haven't seen this video before, you probably should.

Is it hokey? Yes.

But it's still impressive.

One vote just isn't enough

Posted by tywebb on September 28, 2007 - 12:11 PM EST

As a former Texan, I've gotta say this is not what I wanted to see out of my former representatives, but watch the video as they run around voting for absent legislators.

Bizarre...

No limits

If you ever wondered how the guys in the awesome chase sequence from the Bond movie Casino Royale did what they did, then you need to be introduced to parkour.

Developed in France out of a combination of acrobatics and gymnastics, and better known in America as freerunning, it's a series of body control techniques that teach the science of controlled movement and efficient forward motion. Simply put, it's all about doing the things most people think exceed the bounds of normal human capability.

Check out http://freeparkour.org/ for more information on this up and coming sport.

Firemen defeat gravity in vehicular combat

Posted by tywebb on September 14, 2007 - 11:49 AM EST

Firefighters in this video decided to combine the power of their firefighting equipment in an experiment to conquer gravity. Everyone has an air-powered hovercraft, but one powered by water jets? I can only imagine the damage to the pavement below...

A waste of taxpayer dollars? I think not.

Tired of your kids complaining about the bus?

Posted by tywebb on August 29, 2007 - 1:08 PM EST

If your kids ever whine about having to ride a bus to school, show them the alternative.

The people in this remote village in Columbia have to choose between a two hour hike to the nearest village or a one minute ride down on this old, rusty zip line that hangs 1,200 feet above the river below.

Young children learn the system at a early age, and are entrusted with carrying important supplies and younger siblings across (in old burlap sacks) at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour.

Apparently it's been used for years without any injuries, but something tells me plenty of American attorneys would love to get their hands on this class action suit waiting to happen.
